Taking Offa Back to Egypt: A Self-serving Interest and Betrayal of Our Collective Progress
It's an undeniable truth that Offa was the cornerstone of the Otoge movement, a historic uprising that ended decades of tyranny that had enslaved the people of Kwara. Through sheer determination and an unwavering commitment to change, Offa led the charge that finally toppled a dynasty that had strangled our state’s growth and prosperity for far too long.
In the aftermath of that victory, Offa began to thrive and enjoyed the dividend of democracy. Our community, once starved of national and state opportunity and progress, began to taste the long-denied fruits of democracy. We emerged from the shadows of oppression, no longer shackled by the chains of neglect and underdevelopment; but with the renewed hope and assurance of taking our place of pride if we continue on the trajectory of mainstream and progressive politics. With clear resolve, Offa made a solemn vow: never again would we return to the bondage that had kept us down for many years.
But now, there are whispers —dangerous whispers— of a return to that dark past, of a return to the empire building politics of a man desperate to return to power. Some individuals who knew less or are ignorant of the sufferings of Offa under the old order, have begun a campaign of deceit and manipulation. They would have us believe that the progress and strides we are making is an illusion that we should again submit to the very forces that once oppressed us. They want Offa to eat her vomit, to willingly walk back into the jaws of enslavement. May God forbid such a disgrace!
These people do not care for the well-being of Offa; their loyalty is to their own pockets and business interest. They are prepared to sacrifice our community’s future for a front seat on the table of our collective enemy, to trade our hard-won freedom for the favor of the same masters who once treated us as their property.
But let it be known: Offa will not be fooled. We remember too well the pain of our past, and we will not allow our future to be stolen. It is imperative that we stand united in rejecting this treachery. We must guard our liberty fiercely, ensuring that Offa continues on the path of progress and politics of development, free from the clutches of those who would see us enslaved once more.
Offa will never eat her vomit. We refuse to return to Egypt. Our community is destined for greater things, and we will not let selfish interests drag us back into darkness.
Farewell to the era of deceit and exploitation!
